Farmer Responds To PETA’s Naked Wool Advert In The Best Possible Way

Farmer Responds To PETA’s Naked Wool Advert In The Best Possible Way

Farmer responds to PETA’s naked wool advert in the best possible way Jacqui Bateman took this picture in 2010 (Picture: Jacqui Bateman)
When Jacqui Bateman saw PETA’s latest advertising campaign against the wool industry she knew exactly how to respond.
The animal rights group had not long released an advert showing model Joanna Krupa standing naked with a fake lamb drenched in blood.
Calling for a boycott of the wool industry, the campaigners claimed to have seen examples of bad practice on ‘sustainable farms’ on as many as three continents.
An industry snub is something Jacqui – who runs a farm with her husband in Australia – strongly disputes.
But luckily for the photograher she had taken a picture a few years earlier that had the power to instantly trump PETA’s offering.

For no reason other than getting a few laughs off his mates, Daniel Telfer had sheared a sheep in nothing but his boots and Jacqui was there to capture it.
Since she has posted the 2010 image on Facebook it has been seen more than a million times and featured in newspapers across Australia.
‘I thought I should do it with a different tact, use a bit of humour and take the mickey out of the PETA mob, rather than just lock horns and argue the case,’ she told the Daily Mercury.
‘You are not going to get people to listen to you if you do it like that.’
PETA argued in its new campaign ‘Wool: The Naked Truth’ that it has witnessed examples at 37 wool industry facilities of sheep being mutilated, abused and skinned alive.
It has urged consumers to boycott the fibre for synthetic materials instead.
But in an earlier Facebook post, Jacqui said she wanted to the picture show the ‘true nature of Australian shearing and what shorn sheep look like’
‘This is in direct contrast to the latest PETA campaign, which is aimed to show the wool industry as cruel and uncaring,’ she added.

  3. Wow! Those sure are powerful images. I usually don't like looking at these types of things but I do know it's for a good cause. I am fully aware that this is a part of reality. I sure hope they do something about it. I feel bad for the animals. If you carefully observe them and their way of living, you will see that they too have emotions and thoughts. I can only imagine how hard it must be for them.

    Thanks for sharing this.

  4. Pictures paint a thousand words. These are beautiful pictures that highly speak of the situations that PETA has been lobbying for a longest time.

  5. Ok those are some very powerful images! I know , yes this is part of reality, and im trying to do my share in less or non using some animal products! No animal should be treated poorly

  6. These kind of images are too much for me to even look at. Animals deserve so much more than to be treated like an article of clothing

  7. Not all farmers are treating their animals the same. You would be surprised to see how many people that live on farms love and care for their animals.

  8. I thought the images make a good point... in terms of generating publicity of course. I mean, that is the sole purpose of coming out with revealing photo ads.

At any rate, they have their advocacies and should be respected.

  9. PETA is trying to leave an emotional response in people. And they don`t care most of the industry are respectable owners. But wouldn`t they put a naked girl there with a bloody animal, it would get them nowhere. Case and point.

  10. One picture equals a thousand words! I think that there are always two sides on the same coin. If someone is treating animals badly, should be punished. BUT this doesn't mean that everyone else should be punished and that much more people should loose their jobs or their businesses. That is unreasonable and unfair.

  11. It depends on the attitude of the people. On how they take these images they see. If they feel offended they should do something against animal cruelty.

  13. That's a very powerful picture. The way Jacqui turned that image from a humourous moment into a potent statement was brilliant. Very interesting post

  16. I understand some irresponsible people do this shoddy shearing but you have to the respect the guy for standing up for himself and his humane practices. You can't tar everyone with one brush.

  21. I don't like that PETA used a naked model for their campaign. Please explain how a hot blonde model helps spread awareness?

  22. It is said to think that cute little lambs are hurt like that when their wool is collected. I have seen wool sheering live once but I don't remember the animals to be hurt. It was part of a country fair and the shepherd told us that the animal doesn't feel a thing.

  23. Wow the image on left! :( I have seen sheep being shorn lots - they used to do it in my hometown on a main corner street with doors open for everyone to see each weekend. No sheep were ever harmed - they respected the animals and never intended to hurt them. Its hard and sad to think some factories may not treat their animals well :(

  24. I am an animal lover and cruelty free lover however when sheep have really thick and full coats, it actually does them worse having it than not which is why farmers shave it off. The only way a sheep would be cut up like that in the first picture is if the person doing it didnt know what they were doing and wanted to hurt it.

  27. Animals are made to help humans in their daily lives. But this not mean we should abuse them for they also deserve to be treated well too.
